The What, Why And Whodunit – September 2009

by S.Pradeep Kumar on September 26, 2009

Many people encouraged me to continue HellBound Bloggers’s new initiative The What, Why And Whodunit. If you want to know more about this series, you check our last month’s article.

The What, Why And Whodunit is not link love. I love to ask questions. In this post, I’ll display some of those questions with their answers. I’ll also include good comments made on the articles in this blog. I want to share information I learned with my beloved readers.

Below I mentioned some of my queries and doubts with answers made by bloggers aka friends ! ;)

Q. How long will you wait for a blog to load and why?

Qs and AsA. Sanjeev Mishra, Internet Techies : It should load within 3 – 4 seconds. To throw some light on it, as users are having lot many other options from SERP and they may change their mind if your blog doesn’t load quickly. To optimize your blog for fast loading, you should try Pingdom or any other service to check your load time. Try to serve the content as early as you can to engage your readers..

Q. Which Ad format you prefer the most and why you prefer it ?

A. Himanshu Yadav, BlogTechnika : Totally depends on the area where you are placing an ads, suppose you are placing ads below the title or in the middle of an article the text ads would be suitable but if you are placing an ads on the sidebar then you should go for image ad.

Q.Say out-of-the-box meaning for the term “HellBound” (as in HellBound Bloggers)

A. Liane, Better Blogging For Bloggers : HellBound – on a journey to discover something beyond the norms. A quest for new methods, might be not the usal thing you would do, but that’s just what makes it more exciting. To experience the thrill of blogging.

Q.When is a blog eligible to conduct contests ?

A. Lax, TechZoomIn : A blog becomes eligible only if it gets at least 200+ visits daily and entertains at least 100+ RSS subscribers. You can start without this also, but no use in my opinion :)

In The What, Why And Whodunit I’ll post some of my questions and doubts, of course with answers. I’ll ask mainly through blog comments or mails. I decided to make one post like this per month.

I agree with all above answers, few added suggestions from me.
> To decrease the loading time u can use Wp-super cache.
> For contests, you must have regular and repeat visitors with such as feed readers, that will increase u r contest popularity.

I agree with you Chethan , for conducting contest you must have loyal visitors.

And now the loading time of the site firstly depends on the server where we have hosted our blog. As we know if petrol is only not of good quality then how can we expect nice mileage from our bike , similarly choose the best hosting plan and fast servers for hosting the blog.

Cheers Pradeep :)

I noted a few errors on my blog when I used the Wp-cache plugin. This is certainly due to the fact that Wp-cache is not compatibe with some other plugins which create conflict. I had to remove it from my blog, and still looking for an alternative, unless someone can solve the conflict problem it generates on my blog. Very nice post anyway.

Thanks buddy for featuring my answer over here. I totally agree with Chetan about usage of Wp-Super-Cache, I think that is now an essential part of every wordpress installation. Bloggers can go for a clean head section of their blog as well to reduce the load time.

First, thanks for giving me a perfect answer ! ;)

And, I use Super Cache, but I find it bit difficult when I’m customizing my blog, takes time for the effects to appear ! :(

I think that this is a good way to promote your blog & also to show a little bit of link love for another blog.

Carry on with this type of post. It’s good to know what others (blogger) opinion

Sometimes, using the out-of-the box words have its problems too. It becomes difficult to remember such words. But on the other hand,it makes a good impression that the name is not derived from anything and is a completely unique word.

Yup, what you said is true Rohit. Creative words are sometimes confusing.. for example, labnol ! ;)

Not a bad idea at all. To feature while getting some nice answers shared, perhaps getting some other feedbacks to sharpen the suggestion somemore. You’re smart, Pradeep. ^^ I agree on the page loading time to be least than 5 seconds. As of the contest, there are some truths in it too. But can’t help wondering if there’re any special cases of successful contests that gain popularity to a blog regardless the stats mentioned?

This is actually a good concept to have on a blog. I agree with the answers above.

Would like to know what amount of emails do you get asking for help or just plain questions. Would be interesting to know.

Thanks for the support George !

It is mainly through mail only… I express my doubts through comments or tweets also ! :)

I was advised not to send bulk mails while asking doubts.. so I stopped doing that!

And, many people were kind… very kind ! ;)
